Operating Rooms

If you are planning to wait while the patient is in the Operating Room, we ask that you wait in the Surgical Waiting Room. The staff will take the patient into the holding area of the Operating Suite. There is a preparation time of at least thirty minutes to one hour before the surgery actually begins. This time should be added to the time the physician has told you the surgery should take to complete.

Surgical Waiting Room

Recovery Room personnel or the physician will notify you when the surgery is over and when the patient arrives in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). It is important that you notify the volunteer if you need to leave the waiting room while the patient is in surgery. If you wish to go to the cafeteria, beepers (pagers) are available so we may reach you. After the surgery, the physician will speak with you in a consultation room or call you on the phone at the number you provided to the staff. There are telephones available for your use in the waiting room and the main lobby (these are not pay phones).

Our waiting room reception area is staffed with volunteers who act as liaisons to answer any general questions you may have. The unit clerk receptionist in the SDS waiting room also is available to assist you.
